Peace, Love, and Barbecues

Ever been in an internet argument? You’re just saying something common sense like, “Hey, love is the way. Jesus loves us all.” and someone wants to post something wrong that scripture debunks, and it leads to an internet argument. You’re out to show love, but others want to argue against love. Arguments can get you feelin’ upset, right? And in an election year, more people are arguing now than ever.

How do you combat this argument funk that makes you feel not well? Well, you can’t avoid preaching Jesus. Jesus calls us to preach even if people insult us and make fun of us. Yet, as we worship love, we also like to feel love in return. I found the solution to losing the argument funk of people being jerks to you: BBQ.

Here’s how you do a cookout, barbecue, catered friend party. First, you find some friends. If you don’t have many friends, listen to this song for strategies to get more: Kenny Rogers – The Gambler (Official Music Video). If you don’t know any friends, just invite people who you know casually at the stores you shop at locally or coworkers/students or family. Then they come over, you pay some cash to get some food there for them, and you play games and chill together. Spending time with friends and food and games is awesome! It is loving your neighbor as Jesus calls us to. It makes your brain completely forget about internet funk and bad feelings!

If you want to take it even further, and get super spiritual in God about it, do as God tells you:

Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your rich neighbors—for they will invite you back, and in this way you will be paid for what you did. 13 When you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind; 14 and you will be blessed, because they are not able to pay you back. God will repay you on the day the good people rise from death.”

Luke 14:12 (GNT).

Jesus knows a thing or two about peace, love, and barbecues. Its how it is supposed to be done. I think there would be a lot fewer haters if we were cooler to everyone around us. I challenge you to find a way to cheer up those around you that you know to a barbecue. Man, sounds like a rough trial, to have a cookout and enjoy your neighbor’s company. But I have faith in you guys that if you try, you can enjoy your summer. God bless.
