Fight the Good Fight In Troubled Times

If you read the Bible, you see God doing powerful things with us weak and fallen mortals. In fact the weaker we are, the more God’s power is seen. The Israelites could not have escaped being genocided by the Egyptians without God’s help. The unarmed and untrained in battle ex-slaves should have no chance vs armed and fortified in city warriors. With God though, he likes to show up and help us at our weakest like a hero. So never give up if circumstances look terrible.

Fight on the good fight! Work hard just to help others. Life is a balance of self and lifting others up. Everyone needs some chill time. When you’ve collected yourself, help others. Live a life of construction and building up.

— One who is not living a constructive lifestyle and is self-destructive may say something like this comedic quote:

I hope that when I die, people say about me, ‘Boy, that guy sure owed me a lot of money.’

– Jack Handey, Deep Thoughts

There are two lifestyles you can pick from: A self-destructive party lifestyle where you burn through resources and then become a burden on your friends and family sometimes driving them to ruin too. That lifestyle unchecked leads to hell if you do not come to your senses like The Prodigal Child. When you have sense and return to Jesus, you then work to help those around you.  Even if you’re going to die, you want to try to leave an inheritance to others instead of owing people lots of money.  The Boy Scouts have a noble motto, “Leave the camp better when you leave than when you got there.”

Jesus went on to say, “There was once a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to him, ‘Father, give me my share of the property now.’ So the man divided his property between his two sons. 13 After a few days the younger son sold his part of the property and left home with the money. He went to a country far away, where he wasted his money in reckless living. 14 He spent everything he had. Then a severe famine spread over that country, and he was left without a thing. 15 So he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him out to his farm to take care of the pigs. 16 He wished he could fill himself with the bean pods the pigs ate, but no one gave him anything to eat. 17 At last he came to his senses and said, ‘All my father’s hired workers have more than they can eat, and here I am about to starve! 18 I will get up and go to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against God and against you. 19 I am no longer fit to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired workers.”’ 20 So he got up and started back to his father.”He was still a long way from home when his father saw him; his heart was filled with pity, and he ran, threw his arms around his son, and kissed him. 21 ‘Father,’ the son said, ‘I have sinned against God and against you. I am no longer fit to be called your son.’ 22 But the father called to his servants. ‘Hurry!’ he said. ‘Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and shoes on his feet. 23 Then go and get the prize calf and kill it, and let us celebrate with a feast! 24 For this son of mine was dead, but now he is alive; he was lost, but now he has been found.’ And so the feasting began.25 “In the meantime the older son was out in the field. On his way back, when he came close to the house, he heard the music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him, ‘What’s going on?’ 27 ‘Your brother has come back home,’ the servant answered, ‘and your father has killed the prize calf, because he got him back safe and sound.’ 28 The older brother was so angry that he would not go into the house; so his father came out and begged him to come in. 29 But he spoke back to his father, ‘Look, all these years I have worked for you like a slave, and I have never disobeyed your orders. What have you given me? Not even a goat for me to have a feast with my friends! 30 But this son of yours wasted all your property on prostitutes, and when he comes back home, you kill the prize calf for him!’ 31 ‘My son,’ the father answered, ‘you are always here with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be happy, because your brother was dead, but now he is alive; he was lost, but now he has been found.’”

Luke 15:11-32 (GNT)

No matter how dark it gets by the enemy sending bad things your way, love God! Say, “Glory to God in troubled times!” For when you glorify God in trials and temptations, you thwart the devil’s plans to push you further from God! This hastens the time to his end, the resurrection of the dead, and the end of human suffering.

But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that Day the heavens will disappear with a shrill noise, the heavenly bodies will burn up and be destroyed, and the earth with everything in it will vanish. 11 Since all these things will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people should you be? Your lives should be holy and dedicated to God, 12 as you wait for the Day of God and do your best to make it come soon—the Day when the heavens will burn up and be destroyed, and the heavenly bodies will be melted by the heat. 13 But we wait for what God has promised: new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will be at home.

2 Peter 3:10-13 (GNT)

You might lose your family like Job. You might lose an eye, an arm, and a leg. You might get chronic pain. You might have this happen just before your wedding day, but never worry or despair! Fight on for the cause of love in Christ Jesus and hold faith that The Return of the King of Kings will happen! Others of the faith have been greatly persecuted by the enemy, but prison could not keep their words silent and death was not the end of their existence. Always fight on even in dire circumstances. God loves to do miracles at the eleventh hour. Also if you are a believer, you have the Holy Spirit of Christ in you who never says die. Unleash God’s power by never giving up because of hard times.

The Philistine kings met together to celebrate and offer a great sacrifice to their god Dagon. They sang, “Our god has given us victory over our enemy Samson!” 24-25 They were enjoying themselves, and so they said, “Call Samson, and let’s make him entertain us!” When they brought Samson out of the prison, they made him entertain them and made him stand between the columns. When the people saw him, they sang praise to their god: “Our god has given us victory over our enemy, who devastated our land and killed so many of us!” 26 Samson said to the boy who was leading him by the hand, “Let me touch the columns that hold up the building. I want to lean on them.” 27 The building was crowded with men and women. All five Philistine kings were there, and there were about three thousand men and women on the roof, watching Samson entertain them.28 Then Samson prayed, “Sovereign Lord, please remember me; please, God, give me my strength just this one time more, so that with this one blow I can get even with the Philistines for putting out my two eyes.” 29 So Samson took hold of the two middle columns holding up the building. Putting one hand on each column, he pushed against them 30 and shouted, “Let me die with the Philistines!” He pushed with all his might, and the building fell down on the five kings and everyone else. Samson killed more people at his death than he had killed during his life.
