Proverbs 26:4 If you answer a silly question, you are just as silly as the person who asked it. (GNT).
Many people go:God. He’s a life or death decision. He is super super important. I must do everything in total seriousness and answer every question that comes my way with dead seriousness. Then Steve Colbert interviews you, and you get trolled and laughed at with all your serious answers to questions that are by design aimed to get a reaction out of how silly they are.
What do we do when we smell someone trolling us? Well we should cook some trollishness back at them so they don’t feel smug. This is not ol Jim tellin you new stuff. This is in your Bible if you read it.
Proverbs 26:5 Give a silly answer to a silly question, and the one who asked it will realize that he’s not as smart as he thinks. (GNT).
Did you shelve your sarcasm when you were born again? A lot of us are good at that deep level of thinking. Well, you should wield it in the proper manner.
I answer questions to anyone I figure is an honest seeker. Once I pick up they’re trying to argue with me, I try and diffuse it.
Proverbs 17:14 The start of an argument is like the first break in a dam; stop it before it goes any further. (GNT).
I spent seven years trying to argue people to faith. I found people just really like to win arguments over learn a thing. Science a fee years after I figured it out had findings of the same vein. The more you argue with someone, the more you push em away from your position…
So a very common thing I tell people trying to bait me into arguing is,”There are things called argument clinics where people pay to have an argument. And you, you’re trying to get an argument out of me for free???”
That is just one example. In most situations, give people the benefit of the doubt, but don’t let people think they know anything if they’re being a troll, so counter trolling is a legit move if you know that.
Just don’t go into a silly rabbit hole… you should can the conversation after one statement… otherwise…
Ecclesiastes 10:12 What the wise say brings them honor, but fools are destroyed by their own words.13 They start out with silly talk and end up with pure madness. (GNT).
Anyone who has had a silly friend and have went silly to silly concept knows it goes nowhere productive. So don’t go far trolling someone who trolls you. Just end on a blunt silly response, and know you don’t need to get the final say to be respected… you only need the final say vs your children who you can discipline.
Remember, politically correct these days means not saying anything they don’t want you to say. If you’re grounded in the Bible and love, everything you say is beautiful. Feel free to talk all you want even if you crack a joke now and again. Just make sure everything respects God.
