Serve like our Savior: Jesus Christ

I like to live life knowing that Jesus Christ won the war of good vs evil, yet striving to serve God the way Jesus did.  Though we know Jesus Christ already won the war for good, we ought to serve him as if the importance of our servitude was the difference between Heaven or Hell.  If you have this attitude, you’ll serve Jesus a lot better.  This does two things: It hastens the return of Jesus Christ when our suffering will end and it enhances our rewards and future in Heaven.

10 “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be [d]burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

2 Peter 3:10-13 (GNT)

“For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.”

Matthew 16:27 (GNT)

Did you read that last part?  You will be rewarded based on your works.  You are saved by Jesus, but you get bonus points and awesome extra stuff by serving him diligently.  This flies in the face of the heresy tossed around by people who like to party for themselves with the mindset, “Since Jesus paid the price, I don’t have to do anything.” There ain’t anything wrong with partying in moderation, in fact, Jesus tells us to throw BBQs for poor people.

12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your rich neighbors—for they will invite you back, and in this way, you will be paid for what you did. 13 When you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind; 14 and you will be blessed because they are not able to pay you back. God will repay you on the day the good people rise from death.”

Luke 14:12-14 (GNT)

There is a problem with becoming abjectly lazy like you discovered a, “Get out of serving God-free” card.  There’s so much to do to help the world.  We should die to ourselves and try to help others.  The heresy, “Since Jesus paid the price, I don’t have to do anything.” is right up there with the false notion, “Since Jesus forgives us our sins, let us keep sinning, for it is fun and Jesus will forgive!”  Do you realize those people can even miss Heaven completely?  You cannot just call upon the name of Jesus but do the opposite of what He says non stop.  For example, it misrepresents Jesus if someone steals a wallet in His name.  I hope this makes sense because it is as important as your soul’s destiny.

46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Luke 6:46-49 (GNT)

Ok serving God seems to be the most important thing possible.  Yes, that is true.  How do you serve God?  Depending on your talent, you can earn money and help the poor often.  This is the most common one.  Everyone earns money differently by work and such.  So once you become a Christian, you do not need to drop your career path and train to become a minister unless God calls you to do so.  Frequently we put our time, resources, and skills to good use to help others by serving them accordingly. People may decide to contribute to God’s Kingdom in numerous different ways.

Another way to serve God is to always be nice to those around you.  If someone is a jerk and you know they’re a fool, you can’t talk sense to a fool, but you can upset them.  Learn to be nice to even those who don’t reciprocate.  Small talk anyone willing to shoot the breeze. Open doors for people. Let people in front of you in line. Hand sanitize gas pumps and ATMs during this covid period.  Offer to do lawn work for people without expecting pay. In other words, serve with the passion of Jesus.
