Rep Briebert is correct that the state is not to restrict religion. It’s gone past the point of not allowing praying. Christians and Jews may not even talk in public spheres online anymore. This insidious Anti-Free Speech goes against everything freedom of religion and freedom of church from state empowers us with. The reason America was founded was largely in part to the persecution of religious followers in Europe so we fled to freedom in America known as pilgrims.
Thomas Jefferson,”Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God; that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship; that the legislative powers of the government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between church and State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore man to all of his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties. “
Thomas Jefferson letters teach,”Religion is protected from the state.” The state need not be protected from religion. We’re people of God.If people of God are not allowed to be a part of the state, the elected of the people will not reflect the will of the people or God.
