Minute: Christians to be Frugal

“Hello. Do you realize Christians are called to be wise with money? We’re not to love money, but we’re to be wise with it. We’re to work morally for wealth. Then with our wealth we support ourselves, our family, and maybe help friends out some. The trick is that we’re not to waste money on frivolous things we don’t need. We should live on as tight of a budget as we can without crushing our spirit in the process. The reason for this is: The more money we can spare for others means we have a bigger impact on helping the poor who suffer for not having enough food and clothes. Jesus says when we help the least of these, we help him.

I am glad God gives me the responsibility of managing my own money. I feel it is such a great responsibility and freedom that it impresses me that God even allows us to have it. Say what you want about a capitalistic society gone awry, the freedom to use our money to buy our necessities and then use the excess to help the poor is a great freedom. Just because Joe Billionaire is crushing the middle class and gouging our pockets with oligopolies like oil, phone and cable, doesn’t mean our hearts should run cold too. We’re called to be Christians, and once we’re mature, we can assess each of our expenditures,””Is this something I really need to survive or help me in the future?”” or “”Is this something I should avoid buying and help the poor with the money instead.”” Some people might dread this thought process. I like it because it honors God to do this, and thanks be to God that we can manage money at all.
