The New Commandment

John 13:34 “And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

This is more powerful than the Golden Rule. The Golden Rule merely asks us to love like we love ourselves. So if we’re a dude who likes chillin’ da most, we might not go out of our way to help others. After all, if we’re just going through life easy, it would be work to help our brothers and sisters in faith. But Jesus wants to love like he loves.

Jesus loves us so much that he’s with us in our every moment. Jesus is with you now as you read this. He was with you yesterday and he’ll be with you tomorrow. Jesus loves you so much, that he blesses you with good things and helps you avoid things that are bad for you even if you may want them. Jesus loves you so much that he suffered and died hoping you’d be his friend. Jesus loves us more than any mother loved her child. Jesus loves us more than we can know even if we know this. Jesus loves us more than anything else has anythinged anything ever.

Loving like Jesus is a tough calling. It isn’t something we are able to do, but it is something we should strive to do. It tells the lazy dude,”Yo, get some stuff done. Even if you’re satisfied, go help others. There’s plenty of people who can use food, water, shelter, sanitation and education. Go help them.” Go tell some people that God loves them, and love them yourself. This is our calling. Jesus commands us to love like him.
