Words of Jesus: Don’t Worry

Matthew6:24 “You cannot be a slave of two masters; you will hate one and love the other; you will be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. 25 “This is why I tell you: do not be worried about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about clothes for your body. After all, isn’t life worth more than food? And isn’t the body worth more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren’t you worth much more than birds? 27 Can any of you live a bit longer by worrying about it? 28 “And why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow: they do not work or make clothes for themselves. 29 But I tell you that not even King Solomon with all his wealth had clothes as beautiful as one of these flowers. 30 It is God who clothes the wild grass – grass that is here today and gone tomorrow, burned up in the oven. Won’t he be all the more sure to clothe you? What little faith you have! 31 “So do not start worrying: “Where will my food come from? or my drink? or my clothes?’ 32 (These are the things the pagans are always concerned about.) Your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. 33 Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things. 34 So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings.

It is nice to be told not to worry that God has everything under control. However some of us start worrying,”Oh no! I can’t stop worrying.” And if you can’t stop worrying, you didn’t fail, but Jesus wants you to work that out of you. Over time a person can stop worrying. I don’t have a wife and children, so I don’t know what it’s like. I think I’d be a helicopter parent to begin with and make sure everything is safe for my baby.

God calls us not to worry and if we trust in him, we’re trusting in truth for Jesus is the way the truth and the life. If we trust God, we trust truth. To have faith in him is the greatest thing we can do. One person’s little faith is worth more than all the money in the world. So think on that when you consider what matters and what doesn’t.

Yes, God wants us to work and help the poor, but he isn’t a barking authoritarian figure,”GET A JOB!” I think that sort of thing can be like mind poison for some when there aren’t always jobs out there to be had even for what we hear is in demand fields. Work out of your mind poisons, live life in love and be good to each other. Get to a place where you enjoy the mission of helping others become Christian and or helping the poor. Take a breath of air, even if we’re under insurmountable debt, our life isn’t about how much we own. In fact the last will be first and the first will be last. The world says “He who dies with the most toys wins”, but Jesus seems to infer,”He who dies with the most toys loses.” You can’t take it with you, but you can give some to the poor before you die and invest in Heaven. It is either money or God that you serve.

Again, kick off the mind poison of lies we’re told of what matters in this life. What matters is that you’re living and breathing and being cool to one another. If you can’t manage that, maybe something else in your life is a problem and you need to minimize your life some in different areas, or even get help. If you can begin to enjoy life some, keep educating yourself, work a moral job, live a frugal life and then help others. A lot of help that people need isn’t even what money can buy, but a spiritual help that God is real, and we live forever. God loves us a lot. Be confident in your life that God loves you and don’t value it at all when haters get you down. Sometimes we go through trials and tribulation, but God is always with us, and he loves us. Pray about anything you care about, but especially pray for others. I pray that you enjoy living and love the LORD our God: Jesus Christ.

What do all you guys think of Bobby McFerrin? I think the song is relevant. Maybe it has an exclamation point that if we lifted each other up more and focused on what matters, less people would battle with sadness. I think we should all make it a point to lift each other up, as you never know who you meet is struggling and could use kind words.
