God’s Calling and Our Responsibilities

God cares for each and every one of us. God loves you more than the stars and the moon.   God cares about you more than any mother has loved her child.  God loves you more than you can know even if we know this.

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather be afraid of God, who can destroy both body and soul in hell. 29 For only a penny you can buy two sparrows, yet not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. 30 As for you, even the hairs of your head have all been counted. 31 So do not be afraid; you are worth much more than many sparrows! 32 “Those who declare publicly that they belong to me, I will do the same for them before my Father in heaven.”

Matthew 10:28 (GNT).

God may care for little animals in the world a whole lot more than we can muster up loving people. And people are more important than animals. God loves us more than we can know even if we know this.

“If we declare that Jesus is the Son of God, we live in union with God and God lives in union with us.16 And we ourselves know and believe the love which God has for us. God is love, and those who live in love live in union with God and God lives in union with them.”

1 John 4:15 (GNT).

Jesus has a great destiny in store for us. We need to give up our foolish pride, jealousy, and lust for things in this life. What God promises for us is much more soul-satisfying than anything we could imagine or wish for. So if we have enough to eat, a place to stay and basics for our family, let us be happy and thank God.

We’re all just refugees in this world trying to scrape by. If we are kings now, we should spread the wealth and help the poor more. If we’re poor now don’t let deficiencies in your material possessions cause you to think you’re deficient in spirit. Sometimes the world places great emphasis on being wealthy, powerful, and high status. But we should be happy if God has us humbled to be doing basic work to struggle onward. Most of us will be tempted with easier, lucrative but morally grey work. Stay with your humble duties and be good and loving to everyone. God values you a great deal even if you’re just scrubbing floors all day or doing manual labor of other sorts. The Gospel is better than a Disney story like Cinderella where a down and out girl gets to become queen. God sees us all as royalty now! Nothing is up to chance when it comes to your salvation, you’ll be raised to live with the glory God wants for you to encounter eternally in Heaven. Sure we might not see it through tired faces and rough situations, but we’ll be raised with glorious bodies and a never-ending future. And if our life is tough through and through, that develops our endurance in case we need to suffer to some degree as Jesus did before coming into Heaven. Remember Jesus suffered and died on that cross with you on His mind. He loves you a great deal. So take heart and try your best to avoid sin, love others, pray and read your Bible daily.

God is on your side and He loves you! This means He also loves you too much to leave you the way you are. Here are some things you should do:

1) You should be good and loving always. You should love everyone even people who may be perceived as weird and uncool. You should even love your enemy. Go out in your free time with the intent to help others. Maybe work a moral job, so you can have funds to do good works to help others.

2) Help others.  We should live for others as if they were more important than us.  Even something as simple as working, saving, then taking a plane trip to a poor country and handing out money could work.   Being servants of others is a high calling and encapsulates part of the responsibilities of true leaders.

3 “Don’t do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble toward one another, always considering others better than yourselves.”

Philippians 2:3 (GNT).

There is more than enough food in the world to feed everyone many times over.  The problem we have now is the distribution of wealth.  If we gave opportunities to the poor to find purpose or even employment, they could get the goods they need to survive.  This ends up even setting economical systems in place that help their neighbors too. Sometimes we just need a second chance to make things work. For the short run, a little bit of generosity goes a long way with those who for one reason or another cannot currently help themselves.

6 “Remember that the person who plants few seeds will have a small crop; the one who plants many seeds will have a large crop. You should each give, then, as you have decided, not with regret or out of a sense of duty; for God loves the one who gives gladly. And God is able to give you more than you need, so that you will always have all you need for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause. As the scripture says,

“He gives generously to the needy;

    his kindness lasts forever.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-9 (GNT).

3) You should pray. Praying selflessly should be a high priority. Pray that people are fed, cured and we have a good government for the people. Pray for more people to have more faith in Jesus. Pray persecution happens less often and is less intense. Pray people don’t wreck their vehicles and such. Pray for police, firefighters, and paramedics to be safe, fearless and not get traumatized. Be creative, pray anything that helps people. We ought to be bold with our prayers.

4) Read the Bible. You might think you have no evil in your life. You may think you’re not a bad person. The Bible tells us otherwise, we all fall short of God’s glory and we all need Him to transform us.

23 everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence.”

Romans 3:23 (GNT).

Remembering to read the Bible to find out how you can become a better person is part of becoming more Christ-like (sanctification). The Bible reveals to us how we may be lacking in our lives, but you would be hard-pressed to learn the details without reading it. It also blesses us with the privilege of learning more about God’s character and developing our relationships with Him. He is both awesome and loving, which should lead us to make Him our highest priority.

God loves us, and you would do well in desiring to get closer to Him. It is up to us to put some effort in to make this happen. I’m reminded of the Sistine Chapel of Adam and God connecting, but Adam barely trying. Will you try to move towards God as He draws you to Himself?

44 “People cannot come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me; and I will raise them to life on the last day.”

John 6:44 (GNT).
